A lot of people have asked me what are some of the issues facing the town of La Grange. I have put together a 5 point plan. I believe we as a Council have to work towards addressing each one of these issues.
It goes without saying that our light bills are just too high. The town council is working hard to decrease the rates but I believe we can do more. I want to bring fresh Ideas and a unique perspective to this issue that impacts all of us.
Improving our roads, waste water treatment, water supply, parks and dilapidated buildings is critical to enhancing the overall growth potential of our town. We can't afford to continue ignoring these issues. The future of our town depends on it.
We have to really get serious about economic development in La Grange. All across Eastern NC towns are making great strides to bring in new business and to support existing business. I plan to work with community leaders and leaders in other towns to find the best solutions possible to promote economic growth.
I know that affordable housing means different things to different people depending on who you ask but the bottom line is the cost of living is increasing every year. So many people want to move into La Grange but there just isn't a lot of houses for rent or for sale that is affordable. We have several subdivisions in the development stage and we are experiencing unprecedented growth. In order for the town to continue that growth we have to do everything possible to increase the availability of affordable housing.
La Grange is a beautiful town with beautiful people but we have to be honest with ourselves there's just isn't that many things to do in our town. We have to create activities and events for people to enjoy. We have the Harvest festival every year and it is always a huge success but we need to do more. We need to create activities for our youth also. With social media becoming a bigger part of our lives kids are spending less time outside and more time inside on their devices but what I've learned is that we have to give them something to do and somewhere to go. Our children are our future and we have to continue to invest in them.
